Billy Boyd, nacido en Glasgow, Escocia, empezó su carrera como actor en el show de la televisión escocesa Tagart. Otras interpretaciones suyas para la televisión son The Speculator, Helmet, Antígona, Election 99, An Experienced Woman Gives Advice, Coming Soon, Sleeping Beauty y Julie and Judie and the Cadillacs. La primera película en la que trabajó Boyd fue An Urban Ghost Story.

En teatro, Boyd ha actuado en varias producciones, como Britannia Rules, Kill the Old-Torture their Young, The Chick Nerds, Therese Racquin, y Trainspotting (Tour).

Boyd, que tiene grandes dotes para la música, toca el bajo, la batería y la guitarra, y además canta como barítono y tenor.
